So I dedicate this image to my wonderful Dad who would have stood and saluted those that lost their lives.

A Spring Walk https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2014/5/a-spring-walk Hi folks,

It's been a while since I last posted, but now that I have come out of "hibernation" I decided to take a walk in the valley of Dundas on this beautiful spring day with a couple of friends Lyn and Roger who I have just recently meet (Lyn I must say is a wonderful cook!)  whilst on our walk we came across this patch of white flowers (which I now can't remember the name of!) it was such a beautiful sight that I just had to take a picture of them. There is such beauty all around us which sometimes in our busy schedules we fail to see.

So thank you to Lyn and Roger for taking me; if it wasn't for you I would never have discovered this beautiful part of Dundas.

Bye for now

Sunflower Man https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2013/8/sunflower-man
I have had this image in my head for such a long time but have never found the right kind of open space that I needed until now, :)  I was so lucky to find this 64 acres of sunflowers. I knew immediately that this was what I had been looking for, so after asking the farmer for permission, I quickly got my husband and all the props that was needed to create this image ... and off we went.  We had so much fun in setting this up, I hope you like it as much as we do.  (Apologies to Magritte )

The Powwow Dance https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2013/7/the-powwow-dance I was fortunate to be able to visit Native American people’s way of meeting together, There are several different stories of how the powwow was started. Some believe that the War dance Societies of the Ponca and other Southern Plains Tribes were the origin of the powwow.

Another belief is that when the Native American tribes were forced onto reservations the government also forced them to have dances for the public to come and see. Before each dance they were lead through the town in a parade, which is the beginning of the Grand Entry.

Griffen House https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2013/6/griffen-house I had the pleasure of visiting the house that used to be owned by George Hodgeboom who sold his property and house in 1834 to a fellow named Enerals Griffin. Mr. Griffin was born into slavery back in Virgina. Mr. Griffin and his wife Priscilla had arrived in Canada looking for freedom from the slavery that was in the United States. The Griffins were of African-American descent and they had the determination to settle here in Canada where they could be free.

Just prior to purchasing the house and property from Mr Hodgeboom they had a son James. Through the decades that followed the Griffin descendants owned and maintained this house until they sold it to the Hamilton Region Conservation Authority in the year 1988.

The Griffin House stands as a testament to the determination of the African-American folks that fled the Unitied States to Canada for their freedom. The house most likely could tell many stories if it could talk. And what secrets might it hold within it's walls? The grounds could still be called home by the Griffins' spirits.

When you enter the property and stop to think of how the Griffins lived in the house and imagine the children that were born here. You can almost see children playing in a time that has long since passed by.

I am sure that this house was loved by all of the descendants of the Griffin Family and some of the spirits from those descendants may still be here.Griffen House

Eramosa Karst https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2013/5/eramosa-karst Hi everyone, thanks for stopping by, It's been a strange old time recently but I have managed to get to Eramosa Karst, its the Hamilton Conservation Authority's newest conservation area. Filled with underground caves and streams, meadows and forests, this is one of the watershed's unique natural gems. Eramosa Karst is located in the south western section of Stoney Creek area of Hamilton. A pair of long Eared Owls nested here in 2009 and raised 3 Owlets

Canada https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2013/2/canada Hi

Well its been a long time since I've had the time to post a blog, things are slowing down a bit now though, I have even had the time to take a week away to Toronto Canada, and what a city, you could almost pretend that your were in New York (USA). Of course, as with tradition, as they say, they had the biggest snow storm in Febuary that they have ever had when we were there; at least it wasnt rain this time.  My husband and I are known as the rain people, due to the fact that evertime we go away we take the british weather with us, but hey, snow made a change!

Ive posted up a few of the images that I took while i was away, hope you like them as much as i do.

Lavender Girls https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/8/lavender-girls Hi thanks for stopping by again

Had an hour or so free this evening which is very rare these days, so I thought I would have a look to see what photos I had taken and forgotten about.........as you do :-)

I came across some that I took on a Sunday afternoon last month in July, they were taken in a lavender field not far from where I live, it was very muddy as it had been raining most of that night (and day come to think of it!) and I remember I had my new beige coloured shoes on! The lady who owned the field gave me two plastic bags to tie over my shoes, they were Waitrose ones I suppose, but this didn't help the fact that I looked shall we say slightly on the crazy side!!

Theses two little girls where having lots of fun running up and down the rows of  lovely smelling lavender, trailing their balloon, when all of a sudden the little ones balloon floated off into the wind. Neither of them noticed it fly away, which was quite amusing when they proceeded to look for it under the lavender.... ohh what it is to be young!

Jubilee Festivities https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/6/jubilee-festivities Hello again

As the jubilee festivities come to an end, I hope you all had a great extended weekend. I managed to get down to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard for a victorious vintage festival where there was an array of vintage stalls and performances, It was a great day, luckily the weather held out, so I managed to take quite a few shots at the beginning; but as the day wore on and the drink flowed freely I failed to take many more!...............ohh well it was for ‘Queen and country’ as they say!.

As the sun was shining (only for some I know) I also took a walk along the beach, my favourite pastime :)…. I took some shots which captured those kind of moments in time that bring back fond memories of messing about on by the shore …. which I have now posted up

Don’t forget if you’re interested in joining me on a workshop day, just drop me an email to

Summer at last https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/5/summer-at-last Hello

It’s been a while I know…… heavy workload at the moment and not had a moments peace

So I thought I would share this image I took a few weeks back, just to show how a simple composition in photography can be very effective. This picture of the beach huts I took walking along the seafront demonstrates just that.

I decided this time to make this into a HDR as I thought it would make all the detail in the old wooden huts come out… what do t you think ?

Taken with my Canon 5d mkii, exposure bracketing x5, F4, 45mm, ISO 100.

For those of you not familiar with HDR this is where you take the same photo several times with varying exposures and merge them all to form one HDR photo using software like Photoshop or photomatix, so in theory, the photos can be taken with any camera that allows manual shutter speed adjustment. The exposure between shots must be changed with shutter speed because changing the aperture would change depth of field.

Why not have a go or contact me on enquires@juliebridgerphotography.co.uk  to find out more about my next workshops.

I would love to hear from you

Bye for now

A steamy weekend!! https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/5/a-steamy-weekend Well what a steamy weekend I had ;-)................had soooooo much fun on a real steam train, looked like it had come right out of a 1940's film. The station also made you feel like you were being transported back to the same era.

I also had the pleasure of going up onto the 'plate' where they drive the engine,  the train driver was there shovelling real lumps of coal into the furnace to get the pressure up to 200lbs (that's a lot of steam!!) ready for its journey. Gosh it was so hot, but very impressive with all the brass dials and levers, I almost felt like one of the railway children :-).... an older version of course!!

Then, just to top it all had a cup of tea and a piece of cake in the station buffet  - they even had a big brown teapot for the tea, just like in the film "Brief Encounter"... for those of you not old enough that was a black and white film made in 1945 with Trevor Howard & Celia Johnson... beautiful film about  meeting a stranger in a railway station, a woman is tempted to cheat on her husband .............

Look out for details of my workshop day based around this great subject - more later.

Anyway I've posted up a few images taken on that day  - hope you like them

Bye for now   ......... the runaway train went down the hill and she blew, she blew .......

Up to my eyes in muck! https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/5/up-to-my-eyes-in-muck Well what a spot of luck I had today, went out in my lunch break  in the search of a rapeseed field, after driving for what seemed like forever I finally spotted this field just as I came over the brow of a hill…………….So out with my camera, climbed over a farmers gate in my high heels and skirt! …and started snapping away.

I got so carried away up to my ankles in muck, I was shall we say…. a tad late back to work :-)

Another wet weekend https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/4/another-wet-weekend Well what a wash out this weekend's been!

Even though I don't mind donning the Wellies and braving the storm, it just didn't look like fun this weekend.  So, unable to get any new material I decide to sift though some of my old images.

I found some surprisingly good images, even if I do say so myself :)

(I might even post one or two of them up a bit later)

Anyway, hope all of you manage to weathered the storm and I look forward to having dryer news for you next time

Which way is Eastbourne? https://www.juliebridgerphotography.com/blog/2012/4/which-way-is-eastbourne Well I planned to go to Eastbourne at the weekend but ended up in Bognor Regis on Saturday & the New forest on Sunday!!

Whilst on the beach in Bognor, I began to line up a shot of the breakwater posts when suddenly one by one eleven sea gulls came and perched on the posts, as if by magic. I couldn't belive my luck! So, I quicky attached my 10 stop Lee filter, held my breath and hoped that they wouldn't fly away before the end of the 60 second exposure!

They didnt ... and here it is ... Standing Room Only

Bye for now, Julie
